Missions
Missionaries Our Church Supports:
Jerry and Judy Manwaring
After serving one term in Haiti working with the Theological Education by Extension program, Jerry and Jody Manwaring relocated to Zambia in 1997. Jerry served as business manager and acting mission director, and Jody managed the mission guesthouse.
Jerry has earned three degrees from the State University of New York: an A.A.S. in agriculture, a B.P.S. in criminal justice, and an M.S. in management. He is currently working on an M.A. in ministry at Indiana Wesleyan University.
In 1998 Jerry led a work team to Fortaleza, Brazil. The trip was only for 10 day, but according to Jerry, “it resulted in a change of direction and commitment in my life.”
Jody said that as a result of her experience in Brazil, she also gained a new perspective on life and a new worldwide vision. “We want to live in such a way as to live out our life verse, ‘shining like stars in the universe’ as we ‘hold out the word of life’ whether in the United Stated or around the world.”
The Manwarings are from the Central New York District. They have three grown children and one grandchild.
“. . . shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life . . .” (Philippians 2:15b-16a). |

Bethany Morse
Bethany Morse completed her two-year intern missionary term to Zambia in June 2003 and plans to return to Zambia as a career missionary nurse. While Bethany was in Zambia, Liz Anderson, career missionary nurse, served as her mentor. She served at the Zimba Mission Hospital where she worked in the pharmacy,
worked in the male and female wards, assisted with anesthesia, helped to host visiting work teams, assisted with mission business.
Bethany was born in Fulda, Germany, and was on the move much of the time. She became a Christian at a Continental concert after seeing Jesus in the lives of the singers. She realized what was missing in her life was Jesus. In high school she felt a call to missions while attending Chambers Camp. She considers Sayre, Pennsylvania, and the Athens Wesleyan Church home because it is where she grew in her Christian walk. In May 1999 she graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College with a B.S. in nursing, and she was appointed to intern missionary service in November 1999.
In 1997 Bethany spent six weeks in Guatemala with Students International. While in Guatemala, she taught healthier lifestyles, worked with clinics and pharmacies in mountain villages, assisted in city hospitals, and showed the JESUS film. She spent ten days in a missions hospital in Dessilines, Haiti, in January 1999. Her time in Haiti included working on the maternity floor, helping at an orphanage, and community health nursing.
Bethany’s desire is to lead people to Christ by example. She wants to be able to demonstrate God’s love to others so that they may come to find life in Christ.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2). |
